Fitnes Star Program

Gary says the lucky draw now includes an i-Pad

ok Boys. Hope you took my advice and started training early. and when i say train, i mean your legs as well.

Being fit isn't just about doing many pull-ups and have a strong upper body. You got to work on strengthening your legs and back too, otherwise you would damage your knees badly like what happened to me. Back then, I only concentrated on training my arms and upper body, and that led me to think that I was physically strong. Hoever, my legs were not able to support the load that i thought i could carry, and over time my knees got worn out till the point when i couldnt even bend my knees without feeling an acute pain, literally.

If you need help training, i can spend time with you guys after class, etc. Being physically fit is not engh in the army, u need to be COMBAT FIT.

Also, if you do not have at least a Bronze swimming cert (SSC), i encourage you to spend a couple of bucks to go take one at the public swimming pool. Reason being, there are swimming lessons in BMT. For those with at least a Bronze Swim Cert, you only need to attend the first few sessions and there after, you may skip the subsequent lessons. ie.at least 4 hrs free time every week.

Also, if you excel in sports, you should highlight it. Every year, there are combined arms sports events. one of the more prominent one would be the annual Swim Meet. I took part twice during my NSF period and i assure you, it was worth IT! You get to attach out to an external unit to train for swimming, and when i say train, i mean do absolutely nothing but just swim and tan from about 9 or 10am till 1  plus and you can go home. Thats the routine i had for about 2 months every year. and on top of that, you could ask for Off days as a reward after the event.

Those who excel in sports get to join SAFSA as well, SAF Sporting Association. Not sure how you can get in ,but i have seen my platoon mates book out twice a week for training in command school.

So, thats about it. and don't push yourself to barely pass the NAPFA and stop training thereafter. You are expected to keep fit because if you pass your NAPFA and enter the Enhanced Phase, ie excluding the early BTP training phase, the training starts immediately with little conditioning period, eg your 1st route march starts in the 1st week of your Enhanced BMT. So if you slacked off after taking your NAPFA, your body is not going to be able to take the training once Enhanced BMT starts
